Well, turns out there were some changes to the backend XML data output from the WoWArmory. I’ve made the updates needed, everything’s working again… phwew!
Category Archives: Bug Fixes
I’ve just uploaded the latest build of SpellDamage.com. It’s primarily for Mages, but there are some overall site changes that affect all classes too.
Changes include:
- Fireball, Pyroblast, and Frostbolt coefficients corrected (I hope)
- Fireball DoT coefficient & modifiers corrected
- Arcane Missiles rank 10 used instead of rank 11 since it’s not available yet
- Added Tier 5 2 piece set bonus support
- Added Arcane Blast with 1, 2, and 3 cast buffs
- Renamed Arcane Power check box to AP (to make it shorter is all)
- Minor graphics updates
- Removed in-calculation text link advertisements
- Removed banner advertisement that appeared directly below header (to the right of character name)
- Removed some unnecessary menu items (advertise and downloads)
Update: Sorry, Winter’s Chill talent won’t be taken into account at this time as calculations are simply baseline right now. Crit isn’t being taken into account for calculations, but will be in the future. Sorry for any mis-communications.
Thanks to Zaldinar in the mage forums, I’ve been informed of some calculation errors in the site. I’ll be working on them over the next few days. Sorry for the delays, I’ve been swamped with marriage coordination and work.
Upcoming changes include:
- Fireball, Pyroblast, Frostbolt, and Fireball DoT coefficient fixes – it’s currently calculating about .015 off (except Fireball DoT is way off)
- Arcane Missiles is calculating at rank 11, which isn’t really available yet. I’ll be changing it to rank 10.
- Winter’s Chill – I’ll be taking that into account
- Tier 5 -piece set bonus to Arcane Blast will be added
Lot’s of fixes coming and after that I’ll be getting priests online as soon as I can.
Published a new build. It’s mostly code polish, a couple bug fixes, and I also went through and worked on some search engine optimizations I’ve been meaning to make. Actually, I did them too late… some of my pages are landing in the supplemental cache (ouch). Tip to developers, don’t wait, SEO from the start!
On that note, I’ve started an Advertising section of the site. If you’re an advertiser interested in targeting gamers, particularly MMO gamers that love World of Warcraft, don’t hesitate! Visit the sponsorship opportunities page!
Ok, so I thought I was being slick when I implemented a new feature into SpellDamage.com. Since the Armory now can show you items that would be upgrades to your current gear, I added a feature that grabs the top recommended item for each slot (well, 5 of the slots).
It worked great… except that the items that the Armory was recommending weren’t great… or extremely difficult (or impossible) to attain. Well, since it wasn’t very well received, I decided to remove the feature in it ’s current form. Perhaps it will come back, but not the way it was released originally. Maybe after the Armory’s recommendation algorithms are improved.
Anyway, lesson learned. Don’t release features just because it seems cool. Just give the users what they want. Clean, precise, accurate calculations and keep adding more calculations! Well, I’ve done that.
Arcane Missiles was calculating wrong. Well, that has been fixed. The problem was two-fold. Empowered arcane missiles was calculating additively instead of multiplicatively. That was fixed. The other problem, which actually affected every spell, was that I was calculation spell damage bonus of mind mastery. Well, guess what… when you have mind mastery, your spell damage numbers from the Armory already reflect the bonus from mind mastery. That has been completely removed from my calculations.
So now, ALL spells should be more accurately calculated. That leaves the fireball/imp. fireball dps issue to be resolved. Then I can move on to adding more levels for the warlocks.
Enjoy!
Edit: The changes have been made. Ice Lance should now be calculating correctly against frozen targets.
I’ve found a bug with my Ice Lance calculations. If you’re finding that your in-game ice lance is hitting harder than the calculator says you should, I know why. It’ll be fixed soon.
After that, I’m planning to add an option to see how hard your spells will hit for when the target is under 20% life, in other words – the Molten Fury talent.
Well, just loaded a new build that should fix the Ice Shards/Spell Power calculations. Previously, they were calculating too high due to a mistake in how I calculated the modifier based on talent choices. That’s been fixed. However, as always, I’ll continuously tweak the calculations to get as accurate as possible.
Also fixed a bug where I wasn’t calculating Arcane Missles as a 5 second channeled spell. That has been fixed and the Arcane Missles should be much more accurate. More importantly, somehow I forgot to include Empowered Arcane Missles into the talent options, it is now available.
Pyroblast has also been corrected. I was calculating it like a 6 second cast spell, but Blizzard decided that was too much spell damage for the spell. It’s supposed to be calculated as if it were a 3.5 second cast spell. That’s been fixed, and is calculating more accurately now.
Phweew! Thanks for the feedback everyone, if you notice any new bugs/miscalculations, let me know!
